Back in 2009, we stopped in at Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery, and what’s stuck with me all these years later is that beautiful stone building and the peaceful, garden-like feel of the estate—it felt more like visiting someone’s historic home than a commercial winery. Spottswoode is best known for its elegant, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon, along with beautifully balanced Sauvignon Blanc, all grown organically on their Rutherford estate. The wines lean classic Napa rather than over-the-top: rich but restrained, with deep dark fruit, earthy notes, and a polish that comes from decades of careful farming and winemaking. It was one of those tastings where everything felt thoughtful and refined—from the setting to the glass—and even if the details have faded, the overall impression was of a quiet, confident winery letting the vineyard do the talking. Perfect kind of stop for Yoinking: timeless property, serious wines, and a calm moment tucked into a Napa day.
