We set out from Chicago, driving first to Detroit, with plans to continue on to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Even though I once lived in Birmingham, a suburb of Detroit, I had never ventured to the Upper Peninsula. Along the way, we spotted a sign for Mackinac Island and decided on a whim to take the ferry across. What a delightful surprise that turned out to be! In fact, it became the highlight of our entire trip.

Mackinac Island is unique because no cars are allowed'just bicycles and horse-drawn carriages, which adds to its charm. To top it off, the iconic movie Somewhere in Time was filmed there, making the visit even more special.

The water is very clear in the Straights of Mackinac.

Our tour of the bridge.

Such a quaint little town.

Is this how UPS deliveries get made?

So beautiful!

We remember this amazing site in the movie Somewhere In Time!

The main source of transportation.

A great guide if you ever get there!
