Tradeshows are where companies get noticed.
They’re the front line of industry visibility, so we committed to a full annual tradeshow strategy — booth, budget, and all.
After Hooked on Phonics put us on the national infomercial map, it was the right moment to step out from behind the screen and share our story face-to-face with the people who mattered most.
NIMA trade show, Las Vegas 1993
This was our very first tradeshow booth, and it did exactly what we needed it to do.
Here’s Richard holding down the fort and representing us with pride.

Hooked on Phonics was always front and center!

This was our first show featuring the marketing tote box — a simple idea that made a big impact.
Visitors picked them up at our booth and carried them throughout the convention (and often home), turning each tote into a walking billboard for our company. The strategy worked so well that we eventually began producing these totes for other businesses, creating a whole new revenue stream along the way.

Kathy Smith, John Jones, Garth Erdrick, me, Rick Hively, and one more person whose name I’m forgetting. Kathy owned Dynamedia, the company that designed many of our Hooked on Phonics products and handled our full redesign. John was with GAC and printed all of the HOP books. Rick owned Custom Duplication, which produced and duplicated many of our customers projects.
Hooked on Phonics was always front and center!
We paid extra to have this banner hung at the entrance of the show to drive traffic to our booth.
This is the advertizing that our tote provided throughout the show floor.
NIMA 1997
We finally went all-in and purchased a full 20-foot booth, and with our new logo and color scheme, it looked absolutely first-class.

My love visits our both at the trade show!

Creating a company was no joke!
