With great anticipation, our wedding day had finally arrived—May 10, 1980.
We chose Los Encinos State Historic Park as our venue, drawn to its natural beauty, historic charm, and budget-friendly convenience. It was the perfect setting—an intimate outdoor space that reflected our love for simplicity and authenticity.
That morning, we poured our hearts into the final touches, starting with the flower canopy we built by hand. We set it up against the striking backdrop of a towering cactus bush, arranging the chairs in neat rows beneath the open sky. Unlike our first weddings, which had been grand affairs, we wanted this day to be different—quiet, meaningful, and shared only with our closest friends. We didn’t ask our families to travel the long distance; instead, we embraced the intimacy of the moment, knowing this ceremony was truly for us.
The sun shone brightly over Los Angeles, casting a warm glow over the park. Everything fell into place effortlessly, as if the day itself was blessing our union. It was simple. It was beautiful. It was exactly what we had hoped for.
The day began with Kara, Dottie, and I building our flower canopy
